Course Description This course introduces nurses to the role of the utilization management (UM) nurse and explores the transition from direct patient care to a non-bedside clinical role. Participants will learn the fundamental functions of utilization management, compare bedside and UM nursing responsibilities, identify transferable clinical skills, and apply utilization review principles to a patient case scenario. Learning Objectives Upon completion of this course, the participant will be able to demonstrate the following outcomes: 1. Describe the role of a utilization management nurse and key utilization management functions in healthcare delivery. 2. Differentiate bedside nursing and utilization management nursing responsibilities. 3. Identify four transferable clinical skills applicable to utilization management nursing. 4.
