The Vision Behind Nexus Nurse Academy

Meet the Founder: Teruko Williams, DNP, MHA, BSN, RN

Nexus Nurse Academy was born from professional experience, personal observation, and a desire to see nursing education evolve alongside the profession.

Having spent more than half of my nursing career outside traditional bedside care, I began to recognize a significant gap in continuing nursing education. Much of the available education focuses on traditional clinical practice, while nurses in non-bedside, administrative, leadership, utilization management, case management, and other specialized roles often have fewer opportunities to access education that reflects their professional responsibilities. I understood this gap because I experienced it firsthand. I recognized that nurses deserve educational opportunities that support the work they do, the knowledge they bring, and the direction in which their careers are growing.

Throughout my career, I have worked across multiple healthcare environments, held leadership and management positions, participated in utilization management and care coordination, and contributed to quality improvement and professional development initiatives. These experiences have shaped my perspective on the importance of preparing nurses not only for the roles they hold today but also for the opportunities and responsibilities that lie ahead.

I currently serve as a Nurse Consultant, contributing to clinical review, quality improvement, process evaluation, gap analysis, root cause analysis, and initiatives focused on improving healthcare delivery. My work also includes staff onboarding, orientation, competency development, training, auditing, and professional development. Additionally, I participate in correctional healthcare education and program development. As a Train-the-Trainer (T4T) instructor, I teach components of peer support programming in virtual and in-person settings. My educational audiences include institutional staff and incarcerated individuals, supporting the development and understanding of peer support services within correctional environments.

My Educational Philosophy

I believe nurses deserve more than continuing education that simply checks a box. They deserve education that recognizes the many directions a nursing career can take and supports them along the way.

Nursing is an evolving profession. Our education should evolve with it.

Welcome to Nexus Nurse Academy.
Where we strive to thrive and keep nursing education alive.
